Equestrian Program

Equestrian:

Every spring and fall, Collier School partners with Monmouth County parks system's Sunnyside Equestrian Program. Once a week for 6-8 weeks, students will spend the day at Sunnyside completing a developed curriculum specifically for our school that focusses on core values.

Monmouth County Park System Equine Environment for Learning at Sunnyside Equestrian Center: This program explores the world of horses and horseback riding through classroom sessions and mounted & non-mounted riding activities.

This program is dedicated to helping people with physical and cognitive  disabilities achieve their personal goals through horseback riding.  The experience of riding a horse provides physical, emotional and psychological stimuli.  Meeting for 30 minutes each week, students work to improve balance, muscle tone, posture and more. More than a dozen carefully chosen and specially trained horses participate in the program

Collier staff assists the student's interactions with the horses to help them apply it to their own social development and therapeutic relationships with others.

Goals such as team building, respect, responsibility, kindness, and self-esteem are enhanced within the program.
